- 1 ¾ cups + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ cups unsalted butter, diced and cold
- 2–3 tablespoons ice water
- 3 pounds Granny Smith apples
- ¼ cup granulated sugar for the apples
- ½ cup granulated sugar for the crumble
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup softened unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour for the crumble
- ½ cup oats, quick or old fashioned
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Combine flour and salt in a food processor; add diced butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add ice water to form dough; chill in refrigerator.
- Roll out dough into a rectangle to fit the pan; press into the pan and chill again.
- Cook peeled and sliced apples in a pot with water for 3-5 minutes until semi-opaque.
- Mix sugar and cinnamon in a bowl and set aside.
- Combine softened butter, remaining sugar, salt, flour, and oats for the crumble.
- Spread apples on the crust; sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and top with crumble.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
Ensure apples are well-drained to avoid a soggy crust.
Use cold butter and ice water for the flakiest crust.
