Description

This Apple Slab Pie is a crowd-pleaser with its flaky crust and tender, cinnamon-spiced apples. Perfect for any gathering, it’s easy to serve and share!


Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups unsalted butter, diced and cold
  • 23 tablespoons ice water
  • 3 pounds Granny Smith apples
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar for the apples
  • ½ cup granulated sugar for the crumble
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup softened unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour for the crumble
  • ½ cup oats, quick or old fashioned

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Combine flour and salt in a food processor; add diced butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually add ice water to form dough; chill in refrigerator.
  • Roll out dough into a rectangle to fit the pan; press into the pan and chill again.
  • Cook peeled and sliced apples in a pot with water for 3-5 minutes until semi-opaque.
  • Mix sugar and cinnamon in a bowl and set aside.
  • Combine softened butter, remaining sugar, salt, flour, and oats for the crumble.
  • Spread apples on the crust; sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and top with crumble.
  • Bake for 40-50 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Ensure apples are well-drained to avoid a soggy crust.
Use cold butter and ice water for the flakiest crust.
