Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 large egg yolks
- 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 10 ounces chocolate chips, milk or semi-sweet, your choice!
- flaked salt, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Heat an oven-safe (preferably cast iron) 12-inch skillet over low heat for 5 minutes. Add the butter to the skillet and let it melt completely.
- Stir in the brown sugar and white sugar into the melted butter. Turn off the heat under the skillet.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and egg yolks together. Add them to the skillet mixture and mix quickly to prevent cooking the eggs.
- Stir in the vanilla extract followed by the dry ingredients until just combined, ensuring a thick mixture.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and then bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until mostly set in the center. Sprinkle with flaked sea salt before baking completes.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
For an extra indulgence, use a mix of milk and semi-sweet chocolate chips.
Ensure the skillet is heated gently to avoid burning the butter.
