- 1 lb 85/15 ground beef
- 1 lb ground Italian sausage
- 1 onion (diced)
- 3 garlic cloves (minced)
- 2 jars pasta sauce (24 oz. each)
- 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Brown the ground beef and Italian sausage in a skillet for 5-7 minutes.
- Sauté the diced onion and minced garlic for 2 minutes after the meat is browned.
- Transfer the meat and aromatics to a slow cooker.
- Add the pasta sauce and crushed tomatoes to the slow cooker along with seasonings and stir.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or on HIGH for 3-4 hours.
- Serve the sauce over cooked spaghetti, garnished with Parmesan cheese.
Notes
For a leaner version, substitute ground turkey for the beef and sausage.
To thicken, simmer the sauce uncovered for the last hour of cooking.
Use fresh tomatoes instead of canned for a fresher taste if desired.
