Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 onion (diced)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 ½ tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1–2 teaspoons white sugar
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- In a large Dutch oven over medium heat, add the ground beef, diced onion, and minced garlic.
- Stir regularly until the meat is browned and onions are translucent (about 8-10 minutes).
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, chili powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, dried oregano, garlic powder, cayenne, sugar, salt, and pepper.
- Raise heat to high and allow chili to boil, then reduce to simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Serve over hot dogs or as a topping for nachos.
Notes
Allowing the beef to brown well adds depth of flavor.
Using room temperature ingredients helps with blending.
If the chili is too thick, add a splash of water or beef broth.
