Description

This Hot Dog Chili combines rich, savory flavors with simple prep, making it the ultimate comfort food for quick dinners or gatherings with family and friends.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 onion (diced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 ½ tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 12 teaspoons white sugar
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  • In a large Dutch oven over medium heat, add the ground beef, diced onion, and minced garlic.
  • Stir regularly until the meat is browned and onions are translucent (about 8-10 minutes).
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, chili powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, dried oregano, garlic powder, cayenne, sugar, salt, and pepper.
  • Raise heat to high and allow chili to boil, then reduce to simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve over hot dogs or as a topping for nachos.

Notes

Allowing the beef to brown well adds depth of flavor.
Using room temperature ingredients helps with blending.
If the chili is too thick, add a splash of water or beef broth.
