Description

Ingredients

  • 1 onion (diced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups white cheddar cheese (shredded, divided)
  • 8 ounces ham (diced small)
  • 3 pounds Yukon gold potatoes (peeled and cut into 1/8-inch thick slices)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F and grease a casserole dish with butter.
  • Melt butter and sauté diced onion until translucent, then add minced garlic.
  • Whisk in flour and cook, then gradually add half-and-half, salt, and pepper until bubbly.
  • Stir in 1 cup cheddar cheese and diced ham until combined.
  • Layer one-third of the potatoes in the dish, spoon one-third of the sauce, and repeat twice more, finishing with sauce and remaining cheese on top.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for another 20-30 minutes until golden and fork-tender.
  • Sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.
