Description

This Smothered Chicken Thighs Gravy features crispy chicken enveloped in a rich, savory gravy. It’s perfect for cozy dinners and brings warmth to the table, making it an ideal comfort food for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • 2 teaspoons Lawry's seasoning salt
  • 1 tablespoon Lawry's seasoning salt (for flour mixture)
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 packet Sazon seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons cracked black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil or vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 large white onion (sliced)
  • 7 garlic cloves (finely chopped)
  • 2 1/2 cups chicken stock
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Dried parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Pat chicken thighs dry, season with spices, and let sit at room temperature.
  • Whisk together flour and seasonings in a bowl.
  • Coat chicken thighs in seasoned flour and set aside.
  • Heat oil in an oven-safe pan, sear chicken until golden brown.
  • Remove chicken, sauté onions and garlic, then add flour to make roux.
  • Whisk in chicken stock, simmering until thickened.
  • Stir in heavy cream for a rich texture.
  • Return chicken to the pan, bring to a boil, cover, and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Serve over mashed potatoes or rice, garnished with parsley.

Notes

For extra flavor, season chicken the night before.
A splash of chicken stock or cream can restore gravy consistency if thickened too much.
For dietary needs, gluten-free flour can replace all-purpose flour.
