Description

This St. Patrick’s Day Puppy Chow features a delightful blend of sweet and crunchy flavors, perfect for celebrating with family and friends. Easy to whip up, it combines Rice Chex, creamy peanut butter, and vibrant green coloring for a festive treat that will be a hit at any gathering.

Ingredients

  • white almond bark – 24 ounces (divided 18oz and 6oz)
  • rice chex cereal – 11 cups (divided 8 cups and 3 cups)
  • creamy peanut butter – 1/2 cup
  • green food coloring – 5-10 drops or gel equivalent
  • powdered sugar – 1 cup
  • gold sanding sugar – 1/4 cup

Instructions

  • Prepare two large half-sheet pans by lining them with parchment paper or wax paper.
  • In a very large mixing bowl, add 8 cups of Rice Chex cereal.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 18 ounces of chopped almond bark with 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter. Microwave for 60 seconds, stir, and continue heating in 30-second bursts until smooth.
  • Mix in green food coloring until the desired shade of green is achieved.
  • Pour the green almond bark mixture over the Rice Chex and gently fold until evenly coated.
  • Incorporate 1 cup of powdered sugar, folding the mixture for 3-5 minutes until dry and separated. Spread it out on the first sheet pan.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, add 3 cups of Rice Chex cereal.
  • Melt the remaining 6 ounces of almond bark in the microwave until smooth.
  • Pour the melted almond bark over the second bowl of cereal and stir to coat. Spread this mixture onto the second sheet pan.
  • Sprinkle gold sanding sugar over the melted cereal mixture while it's still wet, tossing gently to cover evenly.
  • Allow both pans to cool for 30-60 minutes or refrigerate for 15 minutes until set. Break apart any clumps and mix the green and gold pieces in a large serving bowl.

Notes

Make sure the almond bark is completely melted for an even coating.
To store, keep the Puppy Chow in an airtight container for up to a week.
Feel free to adjust the amount of green food coloring to achieve your favorite hue.
