This Steak and Caramelized Onion Orzo combines tender sirloin and sweet onions with creamy orzo for a comforting dish perfect for weeknight dinners or special occasions.

- 1 pound sirloin steak
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 medium yellow onion
- 1 medium red onion
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 1 cup (136 g) orzo, uncooked
- 2 ½ cups (20 ounces / 602 g) beef broth
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, grated
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
- Pat steak dry and season with salt and pepper; rest at room temperature.
- Melt butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium-low heat; add sliced onions and caramelize for 30-40 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic for a minute and set the onion mixture aside.
- Increase heat to medium-high; sear steak cubes for 1-2 minutes per side until desired doneness, then rest.
- Add orzo to the skillet with the steak drippings; stir well.
- Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce; simmer covered for 8-10 minutes until orzo is tender.
- Fold in caramelized onions and Parmesan cheese until creamy; serve with parsley garnish.
Notes
Use well-marbled sirloin for best flavor and tenderness.
Optional: Substitute ghee for butter to make it lactose-free.
Adjust cooking times based on your steak’s thickness and desired doneness.
