Description

Sugar Plum Fairy Cookies are soft, chewy treats filled with fruity plum jam and sprinkled with festive pink sugar. They’re easy to make, bursting with warm spices, and perfect for sharing during the holidays or enjoying at home.


Ingredients

  • All-Purpose Flour (2 3/4 cups)
  • Baking Powder (1/2 tsp)
  • Baking Soda (1/2 tsp)
  • Salt (1/2 tsp)
  • Ground Spices (Cardamom, Cinnamon, Cloves, Nutmeg)
  • Granulated Sugar (1 cup)
  • Unsalted Butter (1 cup, very softened)
  • Egg (1, at room temperature)
  • Vanilla Bean Paste (1 tbsp)
  • Orange Zest (1 tsp)
  • Plum Jam (~1/4 cup)
  • Pink Sparkling Sugar (~1/2 cup)
  • Freeze-Dried Berries (heaping 1/2 cup)
  • Powdered Sugar (2 cups)
  • Heavy Cream (3-4 tbsp)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices in a medium bowl.
  • Beat softened butter and sugar together until fluffy. Incorporate egg, vanilla, and orange zest until combined.
  • Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just blended.
  • Scoop dough, flatten slightly, place plum jam in the center, and roll into balls rolled in sparkling sugar.
  • Bake for 9-10 minutes until edges are golden, but centers remain soft. Cool before transferring.
  • Prepare frosting by mixing freeze-dried berries, butter, and other frosting ingredients until fluffy. Use to decorate cookies.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
For gluten-free options, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend containing xanthan gum.
Chilling sticky dough for 15-20 minutes can assist in shaping cookies.
