- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, grated on a microplane
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 28 oz crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- kosher salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Heat olive oil over medium heat in a saucepan.
- Add grated garlic and cook for 2 minutes, stirring often, until fragrant.
- Stir in dried oregano and crushed red pepper; cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the crushed tomatoes and sugar, then reduce the heat to low.
- Simmer the sauce for 20 minutes until thickened.
- Stir in unsalted butter and season with salt and pepper; let cool to room temperature.
Notes
Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
This sauce can also be frozen for up to 3 months for quick meals later.
Adjust the level of crushed red pepper flakes to personalize the heat.
