- 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract (for frosting)
- a few drops brown gel food dye
Instructions
- Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, and spices in a bowl; set aside.
- Cream butter, dark brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fluffy.
- Mix in molasses, egg, and vanilla until well combined.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture; mix until just combined.
- Scoop dough, roll in sugar, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake dough balls for 14-16 minutes.
- Cool on a wire rack before decorating with frosting.

Chill cookie dough to prevent over-spreading while baking.
