Description

This Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish is a delightful breakfast pastry featuring layers of flaky puff pastry, creamy filling, and sweet fruit. It’s an easy crowd-pleaser, ideal for brunch or any special occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 17.3 oz. box puff pastry dough, (2 sheets), thawed but refrigerated
  • ½ cup strawberry jam, other flavors also work
  • 1 tsp orange or lemon zest, (optional)
  • 1 tbsp milk, any type works
  • 1 tbsp turbinado sugar, or use granulated sugar
  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375℉ and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese and powdered sugar, mixing until smooth with an electric mixer for about 1 minute.
  3. Unfold and lay out the puff pastry sheets on the baking sheet, keeping the center intact for the filling.
  4. Cut 1-inch strips from the fold down both sides of the pastry, leaving the center connected.
  5. Spread the cream cheese filling evenly over the center section of the pastry.
  6. Mix strawberry jam with zest (if used) and spread over the cream cheese filling, using about ¼ cup of jam for each pastry.
  7. Fold the top matching outer slits over each other, creating a braid pattern, continuing until all slits are secured in the middle.
  8. Brush the top of the Danish with milk and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Let cool for 15 minutes before glazing.
  11. To make the glaze, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until thick yet pourable. Adjust consistency if needed.
  12. Drizzle the glaze over the Danish, allow it to set, then slice and serve.

Notes

Ensure the cream cheese is softened for easier mixing.
Feel free to experiment with different fruit jams for variety.
Baking times may vary based on your oven, keep an eye on the pastries while baking.
